Yeah I'll probably look to getting this - was a fan of SFIV on PS3.

I would suggest a tournament, but given how the SFIV one died a slow and painful death, then that's probably not a good idea! :)

details on the beta from the playstation blog:

Hi everyone. Matt Edwards here again, Fighting Games Community Manager here at Capcom Europe. I’ve got some exciting information about the Street Fighter V beta for you! The very first beta kicks off on 24th July across Europe (at around 2.00am BST/3.00am CEST) and will be running for five days, exclusively for PS4 users.

Some of you might be wondering what characters you’ll get to play as. Initially the beta will roll out with four characters – Ryu, Chun Li, Nash and M. Bison. A few days later, Cammy and Birdie will join the line-up. The reason for their delayed release is that in addition to testing out our online net code, we’re also testing out our new content delivery system.

The beta at this time is online only – there’s no local versus mode included. This is down to the primary focus of the beta being to test the online functionality.

While players are waiting for their match they’ll be in the training grid. Versus matches will take place in either the Bustling Side Street (China), Terminal Station (London) or in the brand new stage the Forgotten Waterfall. Check it out in the screens below! If you’re thinking it looks familiar you might have seen the top of it before in a previous Street Fighter. The inspiration behind the Forgotten Waterfall is taken directly from New Zealand!

We’re really excited about you playing Street Fighter V for the first time in a few weeks. If you haven’t signed up for your chance to participate and receive a place in the beta yet then you can do so by heading over to www.streetfighter.com. Sign-up in Europe closes on 15th July. Users who are selected will receive an email with instructions on how to access their beta redemption key.

2nd Beta Period will be running Oct 22nd - 25th featuring a new set of characters, cross play with PC players, matchmaking features and fight money unlocks.

Hey everyone, I come bearing titillating details on our second Street Fighter V global beta coming your way on October 22nd and running through October 25th (dates subject to change, exact times to be specified later). There are a lot of things we plan to test over the four days the beta is live, most importantly, cross-platform play between PC users and PS4 users!

Before we get into the nitty gritty details, I would like to first and foremost reiterate that this is a beta, and as such, users may experience issues. It’s these issues, however, that provide Capcom with valuable information to ensure that Street Fighter V is as optimized as possible upon final release, so we appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.

Now that we got that out of the way, on to what you can expect to see in this global beta.

PC Play

We’re opening up beta access to PC users for the first time. Please check the minimum specs post here to make sure that your PC is able to run SFV properly. Although the minimum specs will allow you to run SFV on your PC, the recommended specs will ensure you have an optimal SFV experience. PC users gain access to the beta starting October 24th.

PS4 to PC Cross-Platform Play

We will be testing out PS4 to PC cross-platform play functionality on October 24th and 25th. This is a first for us and we are very excited for players across both platforms to finally have a chance to battle one another. Make sure to bring your best strategies as the number of people that you can fight against will be that much larger this time around.

Characters

Since the last beta, we’ve announced quite a few new characters and I’m pleased to confirm that they will be selectable during the beta. When the beta launches, Ken, Necalli, Vega and R. Mika will be selectable. As we’re still reviewing our content delivery system, Rashid will be added in on day two (October 23rd) and Karin added on day three (October 24th). The characters from the previous beta: Ryu, Chun-Li, Cammy, Birdie, Nash and M. Bison will not be selectable this time around.

Ranked Matchmaking

Do you desire to only play the strongest around? Well, ranked matchmaking will definitely be the way to go. Players will be automatically paired with someone of equal skill, with pairings becoming more difficult the better one performs. GET HYPE!

Combined Leaderboards

We will be keeping track of the beta’s cream of the crop through our leaderboards. This is the perfect time to show everyone (PC and PS4 users) that you’re the best around as your name shines brightly above the others.

Player Search

Interested in seeing what strategies the top players on the leaderboard are employing? Well, with the implementation of player search functionality, you can see what they’re doing and also check out their fighter profile.

Fight Money Unlockables

During the last beta, many players accumulated a lot of Fight Money, which they weren’t able to use. This changes as we’re testing out the ability to unlock items through fight money. Players can look forward to unlocking titles and maybe even the Kanzuki Estate stage.

Oh and just so we’re all on the same page, all things acquired (Fight Money, leaderboard status, titles) will only be available during this beta and will not carry over onto the next beta nor onto final release. The Fight Money pricing of items available to unlock and the rate that Fight Money is obtained are both still placeholder, and will not be indicative of the final product.
Details on how to enrol in the 2nd beta is in the full blog post

While wave 2 of the beta kicked off last night (2AM) already Capcom has announced that unfortunately they'll be issues with matchmaking being slow, at least while it searches for opponents you are able to check out the characters and move sets.

Hey everyone. We have a quick update regarding the SFV beta 2 test user experience. As many of you have noticed, we started testing earlier than scheduled, in an effort to optimize prior to our regularly scheduled beta dates. Unfortunately, several new issues arose last night in regards to our match-making system and the rate at which matches were made, and we are not confident that the matchmaking rate will improve significantly throughout the course of this beta period. That said, user experiences will vary.
As such, we want to inform our users that the beta 2 experience will likely be limited and will not operate exactly as we intended. As planned, we will keep the servers up for the previously-announced timeframes, however, matchmaking will likely take place very slowly. While players wait for online matches, they are free to access training mode, and there are new features added to this version that allow players to change the training dummy to be computer AI, or be playable by a friend locally.

The PS4 beta is live now and the PC beta will begin at its previously scheduled time on 10/23/15 at 9:00am PST (17:00 BST and 10/24 01:00 JST). Following this beta and throughout the optimization process, we will continue to periodically turn on our servers for players to access, so keep your eyes open for new opportunities to play more SFV. Our goal is to provide the highest quality user experience as possible when the final product releases, and we thank you for your continued support.
The intended schedule is also included in the Capcom Unity blog post:
